Julia Austin

Julia, born and raised in scenic Shelburne Falls, MA, is now living back in the area after a few formative detours. As a high school student, she spent a year in the Netherlands and, while earning her Bachelor’s Degree from Ithaca College, she spent a semester in London, England. It was in London that, after a relatively short lifetime of boring haircuts, she went to the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy for a £5 cut and found a portal to a world where hairdressing is treated as an art form rather than a mere service to be rendered.

After finishing college, she attended cosmetology school locally and soon after got a job as a florist in a busy Northampton market place. It was here that she was serendipitously discovered one summer day when Kay Gregory stumbled in to ask for directions.

Now after a year of intense training under the detailed-oriented eye of Kay Gregory, Julia has graduated to Stylist at The Firefly Salon. When not working, Julia can be found looking at maps, writing letters, and contemplating her next sewing project.
