Kay Gregory
Kay Gregory started her undergraduate education in Ohio and then moved across the pond to Paris to study art and French literature at La Sorbonne. After earning her BA and not knowing what to do with it, she entered graduate school for Library and Information Studies at MGill University in Montreal. Kay received her Masters Degree and worked briefly in Canada before returning to the States—this time to Boston. She held many positions as a librarian, including Head Librarian of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Although Kay enjoyed her career, her dream of opening an art deco salon began to gain momentum. After some soul searching and planning, she returned to school again—this time to get her Cosmetology license. It was a huge change, but one that she would never regret. Kay worked for a short time in Boston but decided to move to New York City in order to get the experience she knew she would need. She was an apprentice for a year before working her way up to Senior Stylist and educator at the flagship AVEDA salon in Manhattan. She worked in that capacity for many years until she finally made the decision to branch out on her own.
Moving out of New York was difficult but Kay knew she wanted to live in a small town and try living at a different pace. After many visits to towns all over the east coast, she landed in Northampton and opened The Firefly Salon. It was a dream come true and this is where the story ends, or begins, depending on your point of view…
